Plants and trees are not only beautiful, but they provide the oxygen we need to survive. They take in greenhouse gases to help reduce the effects of climate change, and if that is not enough, trees also clean the toxins from the air around us.
When visitors breathe into the leaves of this sculpture, LEDs will simulate the photosynthesis process that would give energy to a tree to grow and flourish. Photosynthesis takes our exhaled CO2 and sunlight and converts them into oxygen for humans and glucose for the plant. In this artwork, the more we breathe on this tree, the more the LEDs will “process” our breath and give us a lightshow as thanks. By showing the symbiotic breathing relationship we have with plants, I hope to make more of us appreciate nature’s value.
